We have a baby.

(Say “Cheers to the beh-beh!!!”)

I say “we” as easy as pie because Rachel and I have been friends since forever. We met when we were 7 years old at Spalding Drive Elementary School in Sandy Springs Georgia and have enjoyed the ups and downs of each other’s lives for the past 23 years. Last fall, she married Caleb, and last night they delivered their first child. We’ve been anxiously awaiting her arrival for what feels like an eternity, and she will be so loved.

R. deserves a freakin’ medal of valor, she was in labor, from what I can tell from the bits and pieces of information I’ve gleaned via text message, nearly well over 24 hours (more like 28), and the baby girl weighs 9 pounds 15 ounces!!! Holy Crap!

Having no brothers and sisters of my own, I feel this is an opportunity for me to be an honest to goodness Auntie. Thinking back, some of my best aunts, uncles, even parents have been the ones that I haven’t actually had a blood relation to, so I’m optimistic that I will get to play an ancillary but extremely important supporting role in this child’s life.

Now, I’ve got to finish that baby bolero and fast! I might want to think about trying to make it a tad BIGGER.
