Other than the stealth knitting, which I can’t disclose, but I can testify to the loveliness of the item, I did manage to start a baby sweater for R. (She is about a week past her due date and is set to induce on Friday.) I’ve since learned from her many, many new vocabulary words- like “mucus plug”- that I wish could be forever erased from my memory.
Baby Bolero in Progress:
I’m doing much better documenting my “In Progress” items and referencing patterns and yarn usage- currently, I’m using the Baby Bolero Pattern from One Skein and Caron Acrylic in an off-white-ish color. (The bottom edge won’t be blue- I have to pick up those stitches later for the border of the bolero.) I have no issues about making baby stuff out of acrylic. Because making a cashmere baby sweater is just stupid. Babies barf. And pee. And other gross things. I think that all baby stuff should be able to be washed at high temperatures without losing shape and color. Besides, this Caron stuff is inexpensive and VERY soft and the stitches have a slight ’sheen’, see:
I know that the baby won’t need a sweater on Friday or anything, but she might! It gets chilly out of the womb.
Update on the new ‘puter- it is out of the box! And it’s silver! Neat! I wonder if I can put stickers on it? The first order of business (after turning it on) was to select a knitting pattern for its new home! I’m going to knit me a custom laptop bag (and felt it) from a hodgepodge of leftover yarn so it will be all stripey and rainbow-colored and fun (Pattern from Stitch and Bitch Nation, my first knitting book ever.) Ok, I know I need to read the little book on how to work the thing and also get me some sort of internets provider, but I thought a carrying case was an important thing to be thinking of. It has to have a place to live, right? And look at the girls in the picture with their laptop bags, don’t they look sassy and urban? No? How about medicated?
Ok, I’ll read the damn book tonight.
