I took a day off yesterday and went to the Aquarium with my good friend B. We used to have outings from time to time, like the zoo and Six Flags, and it had been a while since our last one, and I had a birthday recently, so it became a grand excuse to celebrate! I have been really, really, really looking forward it since she mentioned it last month. Can I just go out on a limb here and say that the Atlanta Aquarium rocks? I knew it would be cool, but I didn’t know it would be so much fun!
There were some neat features, such as the river habitat where the fish were above you. You could actually watch the scum-sucking and bottom-dwelling fishies … um… suck and dwell. The river otters were napping, like all day. They had a lot of toys in there with them, so they obviously like to play, but not on a Monday. On Monday they nap in this big furry ball. The Sea Lions and Sea Otters were amazing. As were the penguins that really seemed to perform for the spectators. It made me wonder, are we truly watching them or are they watching us?
The beluga whales were “doing it” and that was very interesting, and possibly a good thing since there have recently been some deaths at the aquarium. However, it does make you question how appropriate it is to keep them in captivity in the first place, what with the death and all, but that is a discussion for another day.
On the knitting front, I am not at liberty to discuss the item I am currently working on as it is for the celebration of the birth of an individual that reads my blog. So, no in progress photos. I can mention that it was molested by one of my felines this morning, but said item was placed in a safe place and it will be washed and blocked carefully before presentation to this individual.
I do have a photo of the progress of my mother’s rug, which she is rapidly churning out, it should be fun to see it grow. She is using the pattern for the Labyrinth Rug from “One Skein” and is using Red Heart Acrylic- which I think will work marvelously for a rug. Mother recently admonished me for stating that it would take her at least a year to finish this rug, so I must admit that she is progressing quite well. (Although, it isn’t nearly rug-sized yet.)
